There are external and internal styes. An external stye is usually located on the eyelid edge. It can disappear at any time. On the other side, an internal stye occurs farther from the eyelid edge and it may need a longer period to heal.
How to treat styes?
Styes or other types of inflammation of the eyelid are not supposed to be popped, pressed or rubbed. The best thing to do is let them clear up on their own.
It is recommended to use antibiotic eye drops if the stye appeared due to conjunctivitis or direct contamination.
However, it is not advised to use makeup because it can aggravate the condition.
The affected area needs to be clean and prevent infection by taking hygienic safety measures.
Warm compresses can relieve obstruction of the glands.
Cure Eyes Styes with Chamomile Tea
Chamomile tea can help in reducing swelling and pain due to its calming agents. In addition, it can draw out the fluid from the stye. Put a chamomile tea bag in hot water for a few seconds, then remove the tea bag and squeeze the liquid. Place it directly on the affected area. Remove the tea bag when it cools. You can repeat the process as much as you need.
Traditional Recipes from our Grandmothers
Cut along the length of the green onion and apply the juice directly to the affected spot.
Prepare a marigold tea with one tablespoon of dried petals per quart of water. Strain the tea and soak gauze in the mixture. Then, apply it on the affected eye until the liquid cools.
Pound some mint leaves and put it directly on the stye. Let it sit for five minutes before washing with lukewarm water.
How to Prevent Styes?
It is a common habit to rub our eyes when they itch, particularly when they are red or irritated. Moreover, children rub their eyes when tired, but most often this can be a reason for the occurrence of styes.
In order to avoid any infection or contamination, we have to stop touching our eyes with our hands. It is really important always to follow good hygiene and to keep our hands clean.
Additionally, you can avoid getting styes by consuming enough vitamin A, which boost the immune system. Often, vitamin A is lost while cooking, so be careful when preparing eggs, carrots, tomatoes, pumpkin, spinach, lettuce or other foods that include it.
